Edgeworth Expansions for Spectral Density Estimates and Studentized Sample Mean
We establish valid Edgeworth expansions for the distribution of smoothed nonparametric spectral estimates, and of studentized versions of linear statistics such as the sample mean, where the studentization employs such a nonparametric spectral estimate+ Particular attention is paid to the spectral estimate at zero frequency and, correspondingly, the studentized sample mean, to reflect econometr...
متن کاملEdgeworth expansions for semiparametric Whittle estimation of long memory
The semiparametric local Whittle or Gaussian estimate of the long memory parameter is known to have especially nice limiting distributional properties, being asymptotically normal with a limiting variance that is completely known. However in moderate samples the normal approximation may not be very good, so we consider a re ned, Edgeworth, approximation, for both a tapered estimate, and the ori...
متن کاملMean-scatterer spacing estimates with spectral correlation.
An ultrasonic backscattered signal from material comprised of quasiperiodic scatterers exhibit redundancy over both its phase and magnitude spectra. This paper addresses the problem of estimating mean-scatterer spacing from the backscattered ultrasound signal using spectral redundancy characterized by the spectral autocorrelation (SAC) function. Mean-scatterer spacing estimates are compared for...
متن کاملSpectral Cluster Estimates for C
In this paper, we establish Lp norm bounds for spectral clusters on compact manifolds, under the assumption that the metric is C1,1. Precisely, we show that the Lp estimates proven by Sogge in the case of smooth metrics hold under this limited regularity assumption. It is known by examples of Smith-Sogge that such estimates fail for C1,α metrics if α < 1.
متن کاملEdgeworth expansions for two-stage sampling with applications to stratified and cluster sampling
A two-term Edgeworth expansion for the standardized version of the sample total in a two-stage sampling design is derived. In particular, for the commonly used stratified and cluster sampling schemes, formal two-term asymptotic expansions are obtained for the Studentized versions of the sample total. These results are applied in conjunction with the bootstrap to construct more accurate confiden...
